Prosthetics

Before we begin to customize an artificial limb, we spend time getting to know our patients and considering several variables, including our patient's lifestyle, level of activity and personal goals, as well as the comfort, function, durability and cosmetic appearance of the prosthesis. Our board-certified practitioners and technicians are not just engineers and scientists, but also artists who are able to create prosthetic limbs that replicate human limbs as closely as possible in terms of form, function and appearance. State-of-the-art technology, such as incredibly light-weight materials and the computer-chip controlled C-leg for above-knee amputees, have opened up new worlds of freedom, independence and mobility for our patients

Our cutting-edge computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology allows us to produce better fitting and functioning prosthestic devices faster and more accurately than ever before.

CAD/CAM

East Coast Orthotic and Prosthetic Corporation is proud to be one of the first facilities in the U.S. to offer a complete in-house TracerCAD and Medico CAM System. Here is how the two-part system works:

The Tracer CAD system is a portable computer-aided design system that uses a digital "pen" to trace and generate a 3-dimensional model of a patient's limb or torso in just minutes, and displays the model on a computer screen where our practitioner can make modifications instantly using the computer keyboard. We can transport our light-weight TracerCAD laptop to hospitals, clinics, patients' homes or anywhere our patients are located. It eliminates the need for messy plaster casting and the waiting time for casts to dry, and the computer takes extremely accurate measurements.

Our Medico CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) system is the only system in the New York Tri-State area. We upload the digital Tracer CAD file to the Medico carver computer, and in minutes the fully automated system carves a full-size foam model of the patient's limb or torso, accurate to within 1/1000 of an inch.

What once took hours or days now takes just minutes. Our CAD/CAM system allows us to offer same-day delivery on custom-molded spinal braces. All data is transmitted and stored digitally allowing us to easily reproduce exact replicas of orthotics or prosthetics, or make minor modifications to models without having to retrace the patient each time.
